A Concert for Children with Special Needs and their Families
Utah Symphony | Utah Opera offers an annual concert for children with special needs and their families. We present this concert because we know that many families cannot attend cultural events together because their special needs child acts in distracting ways. We feature our Opera Resident Artists with the Utah Symphony on the Capitol Theater Stage in a special concert where everyone understands the difficulty of keeping these children quiet in their seats. This concert is FREE but registration is required. Registration for this year's concert is now closed.
The doors of Capitol Theater will be opened at 6:30 PM, and the concert will begin at 7 PM. After the concert, please join us for cookies in the lobby.

Evening at the Opera for the Blind and Visually-Impaired
Each year, 150 members of the blind and visually-impaired community are invited to a special outreach event at the Wednesday evening dress rehearsal of our May opera. This season's event will by on May 2, 2010. This event, held in the Capitol Theatre, is an annual collaboration between Utah Opera, the Moran Eye Center, and the Utah Council for the Blind. At 6:00, our Artistic Director and Director of Education & Outreach will talk with the group about the opera, pass around prepared fabric samples of costumes (with Braille labels), and share information about the set. Braille translations and large print programs are available, as well as headsets through which a play-by-play description of stage action is broadcast from our translator's booth. Each opera production features Braille translations and large-print synopses. Visually-impaired guests are invited along with a driver/seeing companion to attend the Wednesday night dress rehearsal of Utah Opera’s May production, which this season will be Carlisle Floyd’s Of Mice and Men.
